BC Oil & Gas Commission
This office and core storage facility was the Northernmost certified LEED® Gold building in Canada at the time of certification. The program includes both open and private offices for employees, and a drilling core sample storage facility for the oil & gas sector. Laboratories and meeting/group areas are also included.
The bright and airy building was designed for a cold climate. Energy strategies such as a “trombe” wall for passive solar energy collection were used throughout. The heat of the winter sun is captured and stored in the stone core samples themselves. This, along with the building’s mass, regulate the indoor climate naturally. The facility requires little gas heat to be comfortable to work in.
Wood is featured on the interior and is predominant in the structure at the main meeting room, lobby and front entry.
Built from insulated concrete sandwich panels and triple-glazed windows that open, the building responds perfectly to the prairie climate.
